This new Civic makes me angry, like down to tho core of my being. Lets list the reasons why.
it’s too big. it’s too expensive, it’s got too many gadgets, It has a sporty roof line which means, a tiny rear window, and even smaller trunk opening, it’s got a freaking turbo(so it’s not even a Honda). it’s exterior design is overly complex while still managing to be extremely bland. it’s not a hatchback(I know a five door is coming out, but it’ll still be a liftback not a true hatchback, The boost gauge has to be one of the most boring to look at boost gauges I’ve ever seen. It has leather seats(because it should be a TSX or what ever they’re calling it now). It has “dual exhaust” which it doesn’t it just has two mufflers for extra weight. Oh and it has a CVT. It’s so much of a Acura that it even has Acura’s signature LED headlamps.
I also hate new car reviews that seem to ignore my enthusiast censors.
Honda Has lost their way, and forgotten what got them where they are now.
“sounds like a Honda” No it fucking does not. My Wife’s 2010 fit doesn’t either, new cars are way to muffled to “sound like a Honda”

I think it’s ugly.

I hope it sells well so the previous generation starts to plummet is price

Honda put a turbo in their City back in 1982 and on their motorcycles the same year. Honda even put a turbo in the 1988 Legend, so don’t sit there and pretend to be made at Honda for making a turbo car when they’ve been doing it for a long time.

But Honda’s legacy has always been making the best small NA engines.

Down the line, I hope to replace my 2010 coupe with a sedan from the last generation.

I like it...

I’d would be a really great Accord.

I would not agree. Since they dropped the S2000 every new performance engine from Honda has gotten bigger and has had redlines drop. Honda’s legacy is that of making good reliable commuter cars with a few good others thrown in (NSX, S2000, Civic Si, etc.).

Ya, real ugly!

It’s trying to look too aggressive for an average small sedan. The SI and Type R should look like they’re going to tear your face off, but for an average car, it’s way too “look at me”

Yea...fat hips, make those wheels look tiny for some reason.
![]() 11/06/2015 at 11:48 |

They’re sunk way too far in like it’s a bad bodykit from autozone.

Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING you just listed is what the buying public (you know, the people who actually buy these damn things) want. Honda wants to sell what people will buy, and classic Honda attributes aren’t going to put them at the top of the sales charts.

I don’t care what smoke Honda’s marketing department is blowing, a Civic is only a Civic if it is a hatch. That’s an Accord.

Ugh. God. It just looks so goddamned terrible. Like, if any of my real life friends bought this car instead of a 3 or a Focus (or actually almost anything else) I would stop being friends with them.
The badge placement alone makes me want to punch everyone at Honda in the face.

This seems to be an issue mostly with the USDM market version. us euro’s get the proper 5 door hatchback or tourer..

not to mention it’s the largest Civic ever made, and the last gen was already too big.

That civic is gigantic. just huge.
how strange.

that video makes me want to put an ice pick into my frontal lobe and attach it to a electric drill.

I know it just makes me sad.

Actually, the only Acura with a CVT is the ILX hybrid, which is just a done up last-gen Civic hybrid. I agree it’s too big, and I hate the CVT, but I admit I’m still curious to see how it drives.

the 90’s Civic that you hold as ideal was replaced by the Fit years ago
![]() 11/06/2015 at 12:23 |

EP3 was the pinnacle of the civic si. This is as almost big as an e39 or an accord.
![]() 11/06/2015 at 12:29 |

If the Si has a hatch and 230ish hp for $25k or less, I’ll be at the dealership in 2017. Considering the 1.5 liter makes 17xhp, I don’t think 230 is too far fetched for the Si.

But it really wasn’t. Our 2010 fit is much larger than any Civic pre 2005. Not to mention the van like seating position. Not to mention that the Fit is only offered with a little SOHC 1.5l, that isn’t very nice to listen to, and does’t have enough power for the 2700lbs Fit which is still heavy compared to a 93 Civic. (the 2016 fit does make a bit more power and weighs a bit less so that progress I guess.)
It’s a short(in length(, and narrow car, but it’s no Civic. Any one who truly believes that the Fit is a replacement for a 90’s Civic has not driven both cars, or doesn’t understand what the Civic’s real appeal was.

They can’t call that a Civic, it’s the size of an Accord (or rather in the U.K. what used to be an Accord, we don’t have them now).
A Civic should be small, hatch and sporty.
With a sportier option.
I’m not saying the estate doesn’t look nice though.

I drove a friend’s EG civic sedan yesterday, VTEC is surprisingly fun. wrrrrrrr-VRRRRRRMMMM

Yeah you don’t get that with i-Vtec.
![]() 11/06/2015 at 13:48 |

too big? It’s basically the same size as everything else?
too expensive? It starts at $19k for a bare-bones LX. I bet you’re being shortsighted and only seeing the top of the line one at $27k with that comment
too many gadgets? you’re complaining about feature content? seriously?!
Methinks you’re complaining for the sake of complaining when reviews clearly are saying the Civic looks awesome, is awesome, and will sell tons.
Honda is about making cars people want. Go drive one, I bet you’ll love it
![]() 11/07/2015 at 10:40 |

Well yeah I mean they were planning to have a turbo anyway. But are they offering a manual transmission?
BTW, Honda has been losing their way for a long time now. Don’t expect any change anytime soon.

I am aware that most of my complaints are because I am part of a niche market, that the general public can not even comprehend. And that with a lot of my points I’m just beating a dead horse, but still. I can’t stop hating what is going on with the new car market.
